A suspected Boko Haram leader has been arrested in Niger, security sources have said.

The man, identified as Kaka Bonou, was apprehended on Thursday, February 12, in the Diffa area of the country with various weapons in his home.

The town is on a shared border with Nigeria and has been attacked twice in the last week.

"Different type of weapons of all calibre including rocket launchers, were found in his house," a Nigerien military source told Reuters.

Bonou is said to be a trader who is known for suspected involvement in trafficking stolen goods.

Niger suffered its first attack from Boko Haram on February 6 and has sent troops to join the fight against the sect in Nigeria.
