Sokoto Governor to pay N4m medical bill of cancer patient

Her case got a lot of sympathy after it went viral on social media with the hashtag #SUPPORTMARYAM.

The governor revealed his intention with a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, saying, "Maryam is one of us and everything possible will be done by the state government to ensure her full recovery."

Maryam Abubakar, who is receiving treatment at an Indian hospital, was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016 and required the sum of 4 million naira for proper treatment that involves surgery.

Some even tweeted directly at the governor to intervene, a call the governor appears to have finally responded to.

Prior to her diagnosis, she worked as a nurse at the state's Specialist Hospital, and is an indigene of Gilbadi village of Gada Local Government Area in the state.
