Governor approves N188.5m for scholarship awards

She said that 886 students would benefit from the awards, which the governor had approved as part of efforts of the state government to reduce the financial burden of its citizenry.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has approved N188.5 million for the payment of 2014/2015 local scholarship and subsequent payments to students studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.

The Director, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Mrs Omauton Jegede, said this in a statement in Lagos on Thursday.

"Four hundred (400) new beneficiaries will receive N88, 900, 000, while 486 subsequent beneficiaries will be paid N99, 565, 850 million,’’ she said.

Jegede urged fresh beneficiaries to come to the board’s office with the following documents; brochure receipt, letter of admission, school identity card, two passport photographs and current progress report.

Other documents required are, SSCE/GCE result, JAMB Result slip, LASRRA slip, parent’s tax clearance, letter from local government, letter from Oba and birth certificate of the beneficiary.

"Subsequent beneficiaries’ required documentation include: scholarship award letter, school identity card, parent’s tax clearance certificate and school progress report for the respective years, duly stamped and signed by the school authority,’’ she said.

Jegede said that concerned beneficiaries should come for their documentation exercise as from Aug. 14 at the board’s office, in preparation for the collection of their award.

According to her, based on the state government policy on local scholarship award, which is merit based; the award value ranges from N200, 000.00 for undergraduates to N300, 000.00 for Master’s Degree and N400, 000.00 for Doctorate degree.
