Gov promises to assist victims of rainstorm

Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday pledged to help the victims when he visited the areas that were ravaged by the storm in Akure.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rain, which fell last Friday, wreaked havoc on some neighbourhoods in the state, particularly Akure and its environs.

Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday pledged to help the victims when he visited the areas that were ravaged by the storm in Akure.

The governor, who was represented by Mrs Margaret Atere, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government Council, said that the government was aware of the plight of the affected people.

NAN reports that some of the toured areas include St Paul Primary School in Idiagba Funfun and Olorusogo/Gaga community in Oke-Aro, all in Akure South Local Government Area, and NTA Road in the Oba-Ile neighbourhood.

Mr Nicholas Adanri, Focal Officer, Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), during the visit, assured the victims of the rainstorm that they would soon get some relief.

He said that even though government was not an insurance agency, it would provide relief and succour for the affected victims.

He said that government would provide the relief as soon as possible.

Mr Kole Ibitoye, the Chairman of the Gaga Community in Oke-Aro, thanked the government for showing concern for the plight of the victims of the rainstorm in the area.

Mr Muyiwa Fayeye, the Chairman of Olorunsogo Community Association, said that his house was badly damaged by the rainstorm.

He urged the government to assist the victims in their efforts to repair their damaged houses.

Also, Christiana Ayeyipada, a resident of the community, solicited the government’s assistance for the treatment of her only child who was injured by her collapsed building.
