Transportation fares are set to remain the same, in spite of an average 10 percent increase in fuel prices yesterday( Monday). This is according to National Chairman of  the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the Trades Union Congress (GPRTU), Alhaji Yaw Manu.

In an exclusive interview with pulse.com.gh, the national chairman sought to assure Ghanaians that  transportation fares will remain the same  even though fuel prices went up.

" No. Prices will not change because of the changes in transportation fares. We have not thought about increasing it, and we won't increase it."

Alhaji Manu disclosed to Pulse.com.gh that transport fares will not change as frequently as fuel prices do. In a previous interview, he disclosed that the transport union had agreed with government to review prices on an annual basis only.

He stressed that transportation fares cannot  practically keep up with the frequent price increases that characterize the downstream  petroleum full deregulation policy.

" We cannot keep changing transportation fares in response to the fast changes in fuel prices under the deregulations policy. We have agreed with government to review prices on a yearly basis. We will stick to the plan.

Increments in fuel prices have a high tendency to affect prices of goods and services  in the country, as it is a major component of the cost build-up of commodities.
