Facebook’s Internet.org is set to launch in Nigeria in May

Following the success of Internet.org in Ghana, Zambia and Kenya, Facebook’s thrust project, is making its way into Nigeria this month with hopeful prospects in hand.

During a panel session held at the Mobile West Africa 2015 conference in Lagos early this year, Ebele Okobi, Facebook’s Head of Public Policy in Africa, announced plans for the Internet.org launch which is set to roll out on more than one telecoms network in Nigeria.

Following the recent online access trends in Ghana, Zambia and Kenya, Okobi highlighted that the Internet.org platform will not only include free access to Facebook but will provide access to other useful information such as health, education, finance, employment and the likes.

With the slogan 'the more we connect, the better it gets', the primary goal of Facebook’s Internet.org project is to create a connected world; a world where everyone is given equal access to the online world.

With global dreams in the pipeline, Internet.org aims to bring together technology leaders, non-profits and local communities from across the world through the prospects of the Internet.

According to a recent article released on MUI, Internet.org aims to circumvent challenges that may prevent underdeveloped nations from establishing Internet accessibility, such as expensive devices and service plans, a lack of mobile networks, and limited power sources. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg works with Internet.org under the assumption that 'connectivity is a human right, and that if we work together we can make it a reality.'
