Avengers star Chris Hemsworth is the latest muscular movie star to debut his own quarantine workout . This didn't exactly come as a surprise, given that Hemsworth has his own fitness and wellness app, Centr , and has been consistently shredded since taking on the role of Thor back in 2011. But he's also mindful of making his workouts accessible to beginners, as he showed during a recent remotely-filmed interview for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in which he coached Ellen's executive producer Andy.
Watch Chris Hemsworth Lead an Average Guy Through a Virtual Home Workout
The online home workout has become wildly popular during quarantine, out of necessity due to the closure of gyms. A number of trainers, fitness professionals and buff celebrities have been sharing training guides on YouTube and Instagram to help people to keep pushing themselves: Mark Wahlberg has been leading Instagram Live sessions , CrossFit athlete Rich Froning is live-streaming WODs every weekday, and action legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Rock are all sharing how they've been keeping fit in lockdown.
The first move is a simple squat , with no fancy equipment required; in Hemsworth's program, you can hold a full laundry basket to your chest while completing reps, making it easy to do even without a well-equipped home gym. Hemsworth follows this with a squat to overhead press, using (yep, you guessed it) a bottle of laundry detergent in place of a kettlebell. He also demonstrates how you can switch out your dumbbells for cans of soup in order to do some lightweight bicep curls and lateral raises perfect for beginners.
This isn't the first time Andy (or "Average Andy," as he is cruelly dubbed on the show) has been put through his paces by a swole celeb. Earlier this year, he tried and failed to keep up with Mark Wahlberg's notoriously tough workout , leading to the actor to call him "terrible" and "a letdown." Which is still probably higher praise than he gets from his current employer.
