Lying east of mainland East Africa, Seychelles has a population of roughly 93,000, which is the smallest population of any independent African state.
The Seychellois society is a matriarchal one as women play a more dominant role in householdes, while unwed mothers are a societal norm.

Tourism is a major export for the island nation and there are several tourist attractions including Petite Anse, Victoria Botanical Gardens, La Digue and The Doctor's House, to name a few.
Being an island nation, there is an abundance of fish and sea food, while other staples include breadfruit, mangoes and kordonnyen fish.
