Wearing jeans to work as easy as it seem might be a daunting task. While you will want to stay professional you don’t want to under-dress or over-dress it. Jeans can be worn to work only if it is allowed of course! Even on a casual work Friday, there are still ways to style it so as not to be inappropriate at one’s workplace.
How To Rock The Jean To Work
Every once a while, we love to rock our favourite pair of jeans to work (If our work environment allows), but before we do; let's consider these pointers.
Recommended articles
Choose dark wash jeans.
Light and medium washes often look too casual for work, even for Casual Friday. Make sure the jeans have a uniform wash and free from any form of embellishments.
Wear a boyfriend blazer.
This structured jacket adds a hint of professionalism to almost every outfit. It calls to mind images of a formal business suit which is perfect when worn with the right kind of jeans.
Style your jeans with a silk blouse.
Silk blouses are chic and dressy; wearing one will give your jeans a touch of class. Choose one in a solid color or subtle print for a more conservative look, if you’ll rather not then opt for a bolder pattern in a bright color to make a statement.
Pair your jeans with a classic button-down shirt.
Collared button-down shirts are the trademark of a traditional office wear. By matching one with your jeans, you are in sync. Opt for ones in light colors and traditional patterns like pinstripes for instance.
Stick with classic cuts.
Wide-legged trouser-style jeans are the easiest to work with, since they are about the shape of dress trousers. Boot-leg cuts and skinny jeans could work as well, but make sure you choose a pair that does not cling too tightly to your body. You don’t want to be prancing around the office looking overly/inappropriately sexy.
Pair with a cardigan (jumper).
Cardigans with classic detailing like ruffles or exaggerated hemlines, dresses up your outfit. A fitted cardigan adds a hint of sophistication to your ensemble, while also making your jeans look dressier.
(Zara has the best ones)
Pair with pumps.
A closed-toe pump is the shoe of choice for traditional office attire, and it can make your jeans look much dressier, too. Opt for low and medium heels. Save super high or strappy heels for weekend getaways.
Or with flats
If heels aren't your thing or will be way too much stress (heels sometimes are), the right flat can look just as fashionable and professional. Stick to formal designs made of suede, leather for instance. Avoid casual unprofessional flats.
Throw on a scarf.
A silk fashion scarf can dress up your jeans and give you a clean, professional look.
Keep your jewelry simple as well. A chunky bracelet or long beaded necklace can work well with this look, but you should only wear one statement piece at a time. Accessories can dress your jeans up, but over accessorizing may cause you to look unprofessional.
