Friends, colleagues mourn late Channels TV journalist
Friends and colleagues of Channels TV journalist have been thrown into shock following his sudden death.
In confirming the sad news, Channels TV reports that the 55-year-old Onuekwusi who had been sick for a while now, died on the morning of Tuesday, May 23, 2017, after he succumbed to the illness.
Onuekwusi who started his journalism career with the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Owerri, as announcer, reporter, and newscaster on radio and television, joined Channels TV in 1998 and covered a variety of stories.
He was described as very versatile and innovative and was one of the few journalists who reported extensively on the elections that brought former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to power.
In 2001, Onuekwusi was a nominee of the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), as well as the anchor on programs like Politics Today for many years.
He was later posted to Abuja, where he covered the State House for years until his demise which has thrown many of his friends and media colleagues into mourning with many still in shock in disbelief
Onuekwusi who many colleagues attest to the good life he lived, is survived by a wife and children.
