Fire guts 12 classrooms inside Army school in Kano
A fire outbreak that occurred at the Army Day Secondary School in Kano has gutted 12 classrooms and the principal's office.
The fire incident which occurred on the night of Wednesday, February 22, 2017, according to Leadership, started at about 8 pm and by the time fire fighters could rush to the school to tackle it, had consumed the classroom.
The fire was also said to have affected part of the principal's office as well as other adjoining offices, though no loss of life was recorded.
According to a witness, a number of textbooks and exercise books were also lost to the inferno.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Mustapha Rilwanu who confirmed the incident, said contrary to insinuations that the fire occurred inside the barracks, it was only the school that was affected.
“We received a distress call from one around 8:20 pm on Wednesday. No life was lost and we were able to put out the fire after we sent a reinforcement of two fire fighting vehicles from our central office and Jakara sub-station.
So we had to use three vehicles including the one from Kurna office before we could put out the fire,” Rilwanu said.
