UK residents get hateful letters calling for ‘Punish a Muslim Day’

The letters sent by anonymous people have picked April 3, 2018, as the “Punish a Muslim Day.”

Families in about six communities in England got letters in plain white envelopes with second-class stamps, TheNew York Times reports.

Inside was a hateful message, declaring April 3, 2018, as the “Punish a Muslim Day”, and awarding points for pulling a woman’s headscarf, murdering a Muslim and bombing a mosque.

One of the recipients, Riaz Ahmed, a Liberal Democrat councilor in Bradford, in West Yorkshire County, revealed how he felt when he got the letter at his work address.

Speaking with The Mirror, he said, “It seems strange that anyone would send something like this to an address in a predominantly Muslim area. When I opened it and saw the content, I was horrified.”

On social media, Naz Shah, a member of Parliament from Bradford West, said the situation had become “very distressful, not only those who have received the letter but also for the wider communities”.

“I would appeal to the wider community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police,” she added.
