Four young students of a unity school in Nigeria have lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on their way back after the mid-term break.
The incident which has thrown the school into gloom, according to Tribune, occurred when the students were returning to the school after their mid-term break on Sunday, October 30, 2016.
The deceased students have been identified as Olubukola John, SS3; Taibat Giwa, SS3; Mojisola Ladipo, SS1 and Mariam Ibirogba, a JSS 3 students, while five other students sustained serious degrees of injuries and have been admitted to a hospital in the town.
The Public Relations Officer of the school, Akin Omitade who confirmed the incident, said the accident happened near a market when an overloaded truck carrying bags of foodstuffs lost its balance while trying to negotiate a narrow bend in the busy market.
The truck, according to eyewitnesses, fell on the mini-bus conveying the students to the school, killing four of them and the driver of the bus instantly.
“The students were returning to school from the mid-term break. They were already in Oyo town and boarded the mini-bus at the garage ahead of the 6pm resumption deadline.
But the accident occurred when a truck carrying bags of garri lost its balance and fell sideways, spilling its content on the mini-bus conveying the pupils.
The driver and four pupils died immediately, while five other pupils who managed to escape were seriously injured."

Residents of the area have therefore appealed to the government to help in repairing the dilapidated road by expanding it or even relocating the market to another place to avoid a recurrence of such a disaster.
