Before Canadian-based singer cum stripper, Stephanie Otobo came out with the stinging accusation that Apostle Johnson Suleman has sexual relationships with her, the General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide (OFM), was enmeshed in a national crisis.

Shortly before the Otobo-Gate, Apostle Suleman had a running battle with the authorities following his statement that his church members should kill any Fulani herdsman that came close to his church.

That statement which was seen as a hate speech polarized him and he was given the stick by many Nigerians especially those who thought he was instigating violence.

Many wondered why a man of God should go to that length going by the spate of attacks by the murderous herdsmen who have been having a field day in different parts of the country.

Those who did not like what Apostle Suleman said took him to the cleaners and even the Department of State Services (DSS), did all it could to rein him in.

It was in the midst of the crisis that Ms. Otobo came out with the scathing accusation that Apostle Suleman not only slept with her several times but got her pregnant and forced her to abort the baby.

She also said he funded her expensive lifestyle with the church money as well accusing him of sleeping with other celebrity women including actresses.

Since she first came out with the accusation, she has done everything possible to maintain her stance including releasing videos of her dalliance with Apostle Suleman who has also not been taking the allegations lying low, including having her arrested and detained as well as suing her for defamation of character and maligning his image.

However, the timing of the Otobo-Gate sex-scandal is what has drawn the attention of discerning Nigerians to question.

Many supporters of Apostle Suleman have come out in his defense, saying  Otobo is being sponsored by people who are not comfortable with the man of God's growing influence in the polity and his wake up call to Christians to take up their defense very seriously.

They believe he is innocent and that the singer is only trying to rubbish him. And trust Nigerians to play the 'touch-not-my-anointed' button with many daring anyone to prove that he actually committed the atrocities she has variously mentioned.

For such people, they believe as a man of God, he is above falling for such temptation that has seen many men of God derailing. They are also quick to say if anyone has not sinned and fallen short of God's glory, they should also not come out to accuse the man of God.

Many have called Ms. Otobo derogatory names; they say she is the modern day Jezebel whose aim is to drag down the Apostle; others see her as a Marine Spirit sent to earth to destroy Christendom.

However, no one has given a thought to whether Ms. Otobo would wake up and pick on the man of God just to rubbish his image when there are other pastors in the country she could have latched on.

They are quick to blame her and cast aspersions on her but no one thinks that Apostle Suleman, apart from being a pastor, is first and foremost, a human with blood that flows in his veins or that he too is susceptible to temptation.

As much as they are quick to put all the blame on the lady, with some saying she is not even fit to be a mistress to the dashing Apostle Suleman, they have not sat back to ask what she hopes to gain in the serial accusations she has brought up against him.

They do not care about the damage the man could have caused her if at all he had the sexual affairs she has continuously mentioned. They also forget that two other women came up with the same accusations shortly after Otobo.

This piece is not trying to give a backing to Stephanie Otobo neither are we trying to exonerate Apostle Suleman but we are trying to look at the human angle to it.

Yes, Apostle Suleman is a man of God but does that give him immunity to temptation? Does that unequivocally mean he could not have derailed? How did the lady get the screenshots of the facetime chats with him?

Oh, there is a quick explanation that she could have photoshopped them (after all, he and his wife said so) but in this case, who will cast the first stone and on whose head will the stone fall?
