Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Northern Ireland, Victor Smith says he never criticised the appointment of Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as Vice President of Ghana after the demise of former President Mills.

According to him, his comments were completely taken out of context.Reports suggested that Victor Smith had described Amissah-Arthur’s appointment by John Mahama in 2012 as a gamble and one that could affect the chances of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2012 elections. But speaking on Starr Chat on Wednesday, the former Eastern regional minister stated that his comments were deliberately twisted by the media.“I hadn’t gone out there to as it were criticise the choice of the President. I was still a minister in the Eastern region and I hadn’t gone out there to criticise him but I was talking to a media person and was trying to explain certain things to the media person and they decided to twist on air.“I had to then go and clean up because if I had been misrepresented then it was important that you set the record straight, in trying to do that it went wrong...so I had to withdraw and apologise,” Ambassador Smith said.
