President pardons 100 prisoners, including Al Jazeera journalist

Fahmy, along with three other Al Jazeera journalists, was sentenced to three years in prison in a retrial last month on charges of operating without a press license and broadcasting material harmful to Egypt.

Egypt's President Abdel Fatta al-Sisi pardoned 100 prisoners, including CanadianAl Jazeera TV journalist Mohamed Fahmy, on Wednesday, security sources said.

The reported pardons came a day before Sisi plans to head to New York for the 70th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
