The Kumasi Gender Court, presided over by Ms. Janet Anima-Marfo, has sentenced a driver, found guilty of defiling a minor, resulting in a pregnancy, to 17 years imprisonment.

The 15-year victim had been sent to sell some foodstuff, when the convict lured her to his room under the pretext of buying the items and sexually assaulted her.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli, said Mumuni gave the victim GHȼ7.00 and asked her not to tell anyone.

He again invited the girl to visit the next day, which she did, and once again he took advantage of her and abused her.

This happened during the month of April and two months on, the grandmother with whom she is staying with, noticed signs of pregnancy and took her to the hospital to be examined.

The prosecution said the doctors confirmed that she was pregnant and she mentioned the convict as the person responsible.

Mumuni, when confronted, admitted responsibility and offered to take care of the victim.

A formal report was consequently made to the Police Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).
