3 killed as police ends Colorado shooting

Two civilians and one police officer have lost their lives at the Planned Parenthood building in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday, November 27, 2015.

According to report by Yahoo News, the gunman has been detained, while nine individuals, including five police officers, are recuperating in the hospital after suffering gun wounds.

It was also disclosed that the suspect has been identified as Robert Lewis Dear, a 57-year old, who has been charged to court for the crime.

While the motive behind the shooting is unknown, police said that the nine victims, who were taken to local hospitals for gunshot wounds are all in good condition at this time.

The "active shooter" situation at the Planned Parenthood building lasted for roughly five hours Friday afternoon after which the standoff came to an end when police officers were able to gain entry to the building and began shouting to communicate with the suspect, according to Colorado Springs Lt. Catherine Buckley. It was then that officers got "him to surrender and he was taken into custody" at 4:52 p.m. local time, Buckley said.

Police said the connection between the shooting and Planned Parenthood was not clear.
