Taxi company wins 2014 Crunchie for Best Overall Startup

Transport network and taxi company, Uber rounds up a good 2014 as it has been awarded the Best Overall Startup at the Crunchie.

After its launching as UberCab in 2010, Uber over the past four years, has quickly expanded to make affordable, reliable transportation available in more than 250 cities worldwide.

In 2014, the transport network and taxi company fully established itself as a global force which has made them to win the 2014 Crunchie for the Best Overall Startup.

Uber beat camera makers GoPro, matching making app makers, Tinder, Internet transaction company, Stripe and photo messaging application Snapchat in the Best Overall Startup category for to snag the award.

Last year, Uber raised two giant rounds of funding totalling $2.6 billion and ended up valuing the company at $40 billion.

It also launched an aggressive API strategy to enable users to hail its cars on-demand from multiple third-party apps.

The company also hired former Obama aide David Plouffe to lead its campaign and keep its cars on the road.

2014 however had its challenges for Uber.

The year began with an off-duty Uber driver being arrested for the death of a young girl, which called into question the company’s insurance policies and liability in these cases.
