Company's Galaxy Note 8 breaks presale records despite Note 7 setback

The latest addition to the Samsung Note line, Galaxy Note 8 has smashed the presale records.

The company announced that it has received more customer preorders for the Galaxy Note 8 than any other Notes it has ever sold in previous years during the same period.

The company's Mobile Chief DJ Koh revealed that it received 650,000 preorders within five days across the 40 countries it first launched which is 2.5 times faster than the Note 7.

Samsung has not publicly announced the number for US-only presales. He said this at a press conference where Samsung announced the Note 8's release in South Korea.

The Galaxy Note 8 is one of Samsung's most expensive smartphones to date with the price set at N334,800 ($930). This exorbitant price though is not enough to deter lovers of the gadget to part with their money. However, Samsung intends to compensate for the high price tag with some presale offers.

For interested people, every preorder made before September 24, 2017 is eligible for a choice of Gear 360 camera or a wireless charging bundle. Note 7 owners are also entitled to a steep discount if they decide to trade in their current device (Galaxy Note 7) while carriers like T-Mobile have also offered their own deals, encouraging customers to sign up for a new line and to get a full rebate on a second Note 8.

However, Samsung has kept mum on how Note 8 preorders compared to its Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus launches from earlier this year.

Going by how popular Note 7s were last year before the disaster struck, it appears like Note fans are unfazed to upgrade, not even the high price could stop them.
