7 awesome features to expect from the next Android Marshmallows OS

Google says it’s going back to basics with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is focusing on polishing existing features and fixing thousands of bugs.

Android Marshmallow is going to be Google's next OS and it will be taking over from Android Lollipop

Google is set to introduce a new Android OS 6.0 codenamed Marshmallow also known as Android M for short after releasing the third and final version of the Android M developer preview. Google says it’s going back to basics with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is focusing on polishing existing features and fixing thousands of bugs.

Here’s are 7 improvements and you should expect from the marshmallow

1. App permissions: Permissions will now be requested the first time you try to use a feature, rather than at the point of installation and can be modified at a later date in settings thereby giving the user complete control over their Android.

2. Fingerprint support: Google will “standardize” support for fingerprint scanners on phones running Android M. This will allow fingerprint scanners to be used not only to unlock phones, but to make purchases shopping in real-life and Play store.

3. Google Now on Tap: Google’s virtual assistant is arguably one of Android’s best features and Google is making it better in Android 6.0. Now you’ll be able to get information on anything regardless of what you have currently running on your phone screen and also be able to say ‘OK Google’ wherever you are in the Android operating system.

4. App links: You may be familiar with the ‘Open with’ dialogue box that pops up when you try to open a link within an app on Android. App links are being changed in 6.0 so that the OS has a greater awareness of which apps can open content directly. For example, If you tap a Twitter link in an email, the Twitter app will open automatically instead of prompting you to ask if you want to use Twitter to view it.

5. Power and charging: In an effort aimed at giving your battery life a boost, Android Marshmallow is introducing a new feature called “Doze” that recognises when an Android device is in an idle state to save power. Google says it has tested this feature with a Nexus 9 and says it can help make battery life last two times longer in standby mode.

6. USB Type C: Android Marshmallow will also bring full support for Type C, which should hopefully translates into Android phones and tablets in the not too distant future having the ability to charge quicker and easier thanks to the more versatile charging method.

7. Google Photos: Google Photos was previously a part of Google+, but it’s a now standalone photo and video storage on Andoid M with a sharing service that provides unlimited free storage for up to 16megapixel photos and 1080p video.
