Regulator says 81,415 less people used the Internet in June

Breaking down the data showed that internet users on both the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks in Nigeria have reduced by 81,415.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday announced that Internet users on telecommunications networks in Nigeria have reduced to 92,281,921 as at June, 2016.

The commission shared this information in its monthly Internet Subscriber Data.

Breaking down the data showed that internet users on both the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks in Nigeria have reduced by 81,415.

It also adds that 92,363,336 subscribers used the internet in May, but only 92,281,921 of those subscribers did so in June.

The data revealed that, of the 92,281,921 internet users in June, 92,181,178 were via GSM networks, while 100,743 were on CDMA networks.

For the GSM networks in the month under review, the report showed that MTN Nigeria had 32,974,177 customers accessing the internet via its network.

Apparently, MTN had suffered a decrease of 134,609 internet subscribers in June, since it recorded 33,108,786 users in May.

Also, Globacom had 26,628,065 customers using the internet in June, highlighting an increase of 272,674 in the month of June, compared to 26,355,391 customers in May.

Airtel Nigeria also recorded a rise in the number of users on its network with 17,325,423 internet users in June, compared to 17,280,089 users in May which means Airtel's users increased by 45,334 in June.

Etisalat wasn't as lucky, posting 15,253,513 internet users in June, compared to 15,508,024 in May, showing that it lost 254,511 users in June.
