Whilst starring in a Rolling Stones music video, being a full-time celebrity and preparing for the premeire of her first directed film Come Swim, Kristen Stewart still found time to co-author a paper on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Twilight star co-authors a paper on artificial intelligence
Yes, you read that right. The girl that all the boys were losing their minds over in Twilight co-authored a paper on AI.
The paper is titled 'Bringing Impressionism to Life with Neural Style Transfer in Come Swim' and tackles the artistic elements of artificial intelligence used in Stewart's upcoming film.
The paper was co-authored along with the film's producer and a research engineer from Adobe.
Published on arXiv, an online archive, the paper allows the three authors reveal the methodologies that were used in the Neutral Style Transfer, a new technique that takes "neural networks to artistically redraw an image in the style of a source style image."
Basically, it is taking all the artistic elements of an image and transferring it to another image, all during film post-production.
It is an unexpected turn (you don't see people in the entertainment industry writing papers on complex tech stuff every day) and lends credence to the fact that what you see - sometimes - isn't what you get.
