Introducing the table that teaches you how to cook

Ikea is always pushing the boundaries of innovation in the furniture business and is not afraid to do so.

Ikea's futuristic table.

Swedish Furniture giant, Ikea, has predicted how the kitchen of the future will look and it’s most revolutionary concept is a table that teaches you how to cook.

Ikea’s Concept Kitchen 2025, which was shown at this year’s Milan Design Week, strives to show people what cooking and storing of food will look like in a decades time.

Some of the features shown included cooling containers to keep food fresher and longer and a recycling system that separates waste materials automatically.

The futuristic table will also be able to measure your ingredients, weigh them and even teach you how to cut them. It also features a built-in hob, so that food can be cooked by simply placing pots or saucepans directly on the table.

The table uses a projector suspended above the table, so the technology can “draw” on the table’s surface to either show you how to make meals or suggest recipes to use, all based on what ingredients you have.

To design the table – which is just a concept and is not available for sale – Ikea worked with design company IDEO as well as students at the School of Industrial Design at the Ingvar Kampard Design Center in Lund University, Sweden.

It also collaborated with the Industrial Design department at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
