Afenifere chieftain says attack on ex-Gov is an attack on Yoruba race

Ayo Adebanjo has said any attack on Tinubu from APC chieftains will amount to an attack on the Yoruba race.

Ayo Adebanjo

Adebanjo made this known while speaking with Independent Newspapers on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

The elder statesman said the gang up against Tinubu is an orchestrated attempt to divide the Yoruba race by some forces in the ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu also left Afenifere and sponsored the formation of Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) currently led by  Honourable Wale Oshun, one of his (Tinubu) loyalists.

“Attack on Tinubu is not directly at him but attack on Yorubaland.  I am not shortsighted. They want to break us up and cause division so that they can take over. He (Tinubu) has made his mistake and I hope he has learnt from it,” he said.

Speaking further, Adebanjo said: “When he went into the alliance, I warned him that they are conglomeration of incompatibles but they chose to ignore. But I strongly believe that the gang up against him is a ploy to divide the  Yorubaland  so that these Northerners can take over. I can see that and nobody can convince me about that.”

Adebanjo and Tinubu were both in Afenifere and the then Alliance  for Democracy (AD) before Tinubu pulled out from AD to form Action Congress (AC) which later became Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and then merged with other political parties to form  APC.
