He said this in his Eid-el-Kabir message made available to Pulse Nigeria on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
He also preached against violence and intolerance as the Muslim community celebrates Sallah across the country.
He said, "I join all the Muslim ummah in this very significant Islamic celebration. Islam is a religion of peace and as we make merry, we should continue to let this knowledge guide our every behaviour and speech.
"The Eid-el-Kabir period gives us another opportunity to be moderate in words and deeds and to reflect on the salient virtues and values of Islam.
"We must collectively eschew violence, intolerance, selfishness and uttering of unguarded comments, which are capable of causing disaffection with our neighbours irrespective of tribe, language and creed or heating up the polity.
"Rather let us show love to one another through our words and deeds. As it is only in an atmosphere of peace that National Development can take place."
He also urged Muslims to ensure that their neighbours partake in the celebrations by inviting them for the festivities.
