CCT chairman, Senate President’s supporters clash in court

Senators who came to court with the Senate President shouted at the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, to sit down while he was making a presentation.

Premium Times reports that some Senators who came to court with the Senate President shouted at the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, to sit down while he was making a presentation.

Angered by the actions of the Senators, the CCT chairman asked them to behave themselves or be thrown out of the court.

Umar said “If I hear anybody ask the counsel to sit down, I will deal with the person and nobody can question me about it. In fact, I will hold the person in contempt and sentence the person to hard labour and nobody will question me.”

He also accused the Senate President’s lawyers of tactically delaying his trial.

This is following the insistence of Saraki’s counsel to question the prosecution witness, Michael Wetkast.

Wetkast has been in the witness box since April 2016, answering questions bothering on the allegations of false declaration of assets levelled against Saraki.

The prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs has hit against the action, calling it a waste of the court’s time.
