Lagos tells Ojota resident to leave hazardous area after fire

Residents have been advised to avoid the safety risks associated with the aftermaths of the Olososun dump site fire.

The dump site caught fire on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, and has already forced residents and business owners to desert the area in alarm as thick black smoke continues to rent the area.

During a press conference on 'Vision Zero', the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Hakeem Dickson called on residents to abandon the area until the situation can be fully contained by the government.

"The smoke has continued to billow and the advice became necessary to prevent health hazards," he said.

He assured that the safety commission is committed to ensuring that Lagos residents suffer from less accidents and remain safety conscious.

3 pupils collapsed from inhaling smoke

At least three schools were shut down in the Ojota area on Friday, March 16, after three pupils of Ikosi High School, Ketu, reportedly collapsed following heavy smoke from the Olusosun dump site. The students had to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Other schools that were closed between Thursday and Friday due to the dump site fire include Ikosi Junior High School, Ikosi Primary School and Express Nursery and Primary School 1 and 2.

The fire, whose cause remains unknown, started around 4 pm and even though there was no human casualty recorded, seven buses belonging to Asset Management Limited got burnt.
