Southern leaders tell Buhari to release IPOB leader

IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in October 2015 and is being detained on charges of treason.

The leaders, under the umbrella of the Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly (SNPA) further condemned the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the country.

They made the comments via a communiqué released after a meeting in Umuahia, Abia State.

The communiqué reads in part:

“President Muhammadu Buhari should respect the rule of law, pronouncements and ruling of courts of competent jurisdiction by ensuring the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and all other prisoners of conscience, which various courts have granted bail and who have subsequently met their bail conditions.”

Prominent members of the group include Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Chief Edwin K. Clark and Senator Femi Okurounmu.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was arrested in October 2015 and is being detained on charges of treason.
