TUC distances self from industrial action

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has said that it’s not participating in a strike action organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and scheduled to hold today, May 18, 2016.

The clarification was made by TUC President, Bobboi Kaigama today.

“TUC is not on strike,” he told Daily Post when asked about his organization’s stance on the industrial action.

The TUC’s decision not to go ahead with the strike had earlier been announced by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, David Babachir Lawal on Tuesday, May 17, after a meeting with labour leaders in Abuja.

“We had full cooperation with the Trade Union Congress TUC and they said they are not going on strike. For them, it is a complete return to work tomorrow. It is not the same with the NLC however. They have two factions,” Lawal said according to Vanguard.

The Ayuba Wabba faction of the NLC had vowed to go ahead with the strike while the Joe Ajaero faction pulled out.

The NLC is organizing the strike in a bid to protest against the government’s decision to increase the price of fuel from N86 to N145.
