Update: Fire razes 95 shops at Kurmi market

No fewer than 95 shops were razed by fire that gutted the famous Kurmi market in Kano metropolis on Tuesday night.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.

Rulwan said the fire which started around 10 p.m. was believed to have emanated from the section where empty plastic bottles were stocked.

He, however, explained that further investigation would reveal the actual cause of the inferno as his men were still trying to unearth the cause of the incident.
