Govt trains 1,300 women in skills acquisition

The Gombe State government through the commissioner for women affairs have trained 1,300 women on skills acquisition.

Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo

Daniel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Gombe that the women were trained on tailoring, tye and dye, fish farming and hair dressing.

She said that the aim of the training was to empower the beneficiaries economically and make them self- reliant.

``The duration of the training is six weeks and very soon they (women) will be graduating and another batch of 600 women will be enrolled.

``The beneficiaries were selected from the 11 Local Government Areas of the state.

``After the training, they will be given resettlement kits and capital to start their business,’’ she said.

The commissioner called on the women to reciprocate the gesture by putting what they learned into practice.

NAN reports that between 2011 and 2014, Gombe state government has trained over 5,000 women on skills acquisition.

The women were trained under the Governor’s wife, Hajiya Adama Dankwambo's pet project.
