Residents in Kuje communities lament poor state of infrastructure

Residents in Kuje said that the poor state of infrastructure had hindered economic and social development in the area.

Some residents of Gaube and Kwakwu communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT, on Friday decried the deplorable state of roads, epileptic power supply and lack of potable water in their area.

Some of the residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje that the poor state of infrastructure had hindered economic and social development in the area.

Mr Amos Sabo, a resident of Gaube community, blamed the Kuje Area Council for the poor state of the road.“This is the only road linking this community and we have approached the council on the need to either tar it or get it rehabilitated for ease of movement."

“The most painful part of the issue is that we have been cut off from having access to electricity in the communit".

“We are appealing to Kuje Area Council to come to our aid and get the road rehabilitated in the interest of fairness,” he said.

Mr Gajere Zaka, a farmer and resident of Kwakwu village, said that due to the deplorable state of the road, residents were selling agricultural products at give away prices which was not in their interest.

He said that 90 per cent of the residents were farmers, adding that rehabilitation of the road would ease transportation of agricultural products to markets and enhance residents’ standard of living.

“We are predominantly farmers in this community and our source of encouragement has been our ability to convey our produce to Kuje market."

“Since the road became terrible, it has not been easy for us to convey our products to the market and have always been forced to sell at give away prices within the community."

“The road we use to convey our farm products to Kuje market is in a bad state and very dusty; the yams and cassava get spoilt before we reach the market.”

A market woman, Mrs Gloria Eze, also appealed to the Kuje Area Council to assist residents of Gaube community.She said the poor state of road was causing higher transportation costs for goods to get to Kuje market.
