Minister orders NNPC staff to keep vigil in filling stations

He also said the NNPC staff should be prepared to miss their Christmas celebrations if need be.

The minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has instructed staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to monitor fuel distribution in filling stations across the country.

Kachikwu said this move was to forestall the diversion of petroleum products and ensure judicious distribution of the intervention supply from government.

According to Punch Newspapers, Kachikwu said “This calls for effective monitoring of the supply system, especially at the end points, to ascertain that what is trucked out from the depots is delivered at the designated fuel stations and dispensed to the public in the most efficient manner. We need you to be out there to help achieve this; we can’t be at ease while Nigerians are going through so much pain to get fuel.”

The minster recently identified market volatility, increasing competition and price war as key challenges facing the gas industry in general.
