Yobe town under Boko Haram attack

Residents said sporadic gunshots ave rented the air.

 

Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam's home town, Geidam is currently under attack by suspected Boko Haram militants, Vanguard reports.

A resident said the terrorists are being conveyed in seven pick-up vans moving through the town.

“There had been ceaseless shooting. Everyone is indoor right now and no one can say exactly what is happening outside but I saw seven pick-up vans coming into the town from the direction of Niger Republic,” a resident said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, confirmed the attack, noting security forces are on ground to calm the situation.

Geidam is about 180 kilometers from the state capital, Damaturu. It is also a border town between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger.
