The Kano State government has pledged to grant amnesty to repentant cattle rustlers in the state.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje made the pledge when the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Muhammad Katsina, presented to him 534 heads of cattle recently recovered from rustlers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the recovery was made in the notorious Falgore forest in Doguwa local government area of the state.

“All cattle rustlers who decided to leave and surrender from the illegal trade will be offered amnesty and rehabilitated.

“The state government is willing to rehabilitate them by training them in some skills acquisition to make them useful members of the society," the governor said.

Ganduje disclosed that a joint police/army operation would soon commence in Falgore forest to flush out the remaining criminals staying there.

He commended all the security agencies in the state for their efforts in tackling cattle rustlers and other criminal activities.

Earlier, the Commissioner told the governor that the command had also recovered 11 camels believed to have been rustled from the Niger Republic and smuggled into Nigeria.

He said the police have also arrested all those who received the rustled animals from the hoodlums.
