NEMA responds to imminent emergency in Kogi

The communities affected by the imminent flood are in Sarkin Noma, Ganaja in Lokoja LGA, and Igala Mela LGA.

The affected areas of the state indicated by the agency are communities in Sarkin Noma, Ganaja in Lokoja LGA, and Igala Mela LGA.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the agency's spokesperson, Sani Datti, who warned people living in communities in the affected areas to relocate to higher grounds for safety.

He said, "NEMA has received a distressed call of eminent  flood in Sarkin Noma, Ganaja in Lokoja LGA and Igala Mela LGA of Kogi State.

"Following the alert, NEMA has immediately established contact with the State Commissioner for Environment, Kogi SEMA and other stakeholders. A team is due to arrive the state for appropriate action to the affected persons and communities.

"NEMA strongly advises  the communities living around the flood plains to immediately relocate to higher grounds for safety to avoid the danger of the eminent flood."

This emergency comes on the back of the ongoing flood crisis in Benue that's estimated to have displaced 110,000 people.
