New case confirmed in Liberia

Liberia's hope of being declared Ebola-free has been dashed as a new case was confirmed on Friday.

Liberia has recorded a new case of Ebola, as a patient tested positive to the Virus in Monrovia, the country’s capital, officials said on Friday, March 20.

This development crashes the hope that the country had conquered the disease, given that no new cases came up for weeks. Since the last case was discharged on March 5, the country was close to being declared Ebola-free until the new case was confirmed.

Countries are expected to wait 42 days from when the last patient tests negative to be declared free of the virus.

The acting head of Ebola Incident Management Team in Liberia, Dr. Francis Kateh, confirmed that a new patient has tested positive.
