Catholic Bishops meet with President over Fulani herdsmen

The delegation was led by its President, Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Jos.

Punch reports that the meeting was about the incessant attacks on communities by Fulani herdsmen.

Reports say the Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan was attacked by suspected herdsmen on the Benin-Ekpoma Road.

Onaiyekan was on his way to the 10 years anniversary of the ordination of Bishop Akubueze as a bishop when he was attacked.

Members of the clergy who were also at the meeting were: Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah; Archbishop of Benin City, Augustine Akubeze; Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Godfrey Onah; Felix Alaba Job; Anthony Obina; Valerian Okeke; Gabriel Abegunrin; Matthew Ndagoso; Lucius Ugorji; William Ayenya;  John Nyiring; Camilius Umoh; Ralph Madu; and John Okoye.

The Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, were also at the meeting.

The meeting was held at the First Lady’s Conference Hall at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
