Troops rescue 38 women, children in Borno

The victims who were rescued in Momo and Tunshe villages include 19 women and 19 children.

The victims - 19 women and 19 children - were rescued in Borno State on Tuesday, November 1, in an operation code-named 'Operation Hard Knock'.

The operation was launched to clear out the terrorists in their hideouts in remote areas.

It was reported that troops cleared pockets of insurgents from their hideouts in Momo and Tunshe villages around Marte general area Borno State.

The women and children were held hostage in Dumba village by the terrorists, report said.

It was gathered that during the rescue operation, the troops killed six Boko Haram insurgents while others fled with gunshot wounds leaving behind 22 motorcycles, flags and other items.

Similarly, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed at a checkpoint in Gubio, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State earlier foiled a suicide attack on Gubio town by eight Boko Haram terrorists, it was learnt.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 9.15AM on Tuesday morning.

The suicide bombers reportedly arrived in a pickup vehicle primed with Improvised Explosive Devices including suicide vests and attempted to force their way through the checkpoint.

But troops were said to have insisted the vehicle be thoroughly checked, during which the terrorists detonated one of the suicide vests killing all eight of them.
