Buhari appoints Iliya Abbah head of multinational force

He was appointed to replace Brig-Gen Tukur Buratai, who was redeployed to serve as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Iliya Abbah as the head of the multinational force against Boko Haram.

He was appointed to replace Brig-Gen Tukur Buratai, who was redeployed to serve as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.

According to a military spokesperson, Abbah had been in charge of military operations in the Niger Delta before his appointment.

The multinational force will be stationed at the Chadian capital, N’Djamena and will operate across the boundaries of countries affected by the insurgency.

Buhari visited Cameroon on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, to discuss the joint war against the sect.
