‘It’s actually men that belong in the kitchen,’ Ex-governor says

Aliyu said further that women should remain in the “inner room” while their husbands work to provide their needs.

Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu-Former Gov. of Niger state.

The former governor made the comments while giving a lecture in Minna, the state capital.

“Looking at the issue critically, and in Islamic terms, it is actually the man that should be in the kitchen as provided for in the Holy Quran,” Aliyu said according to Vanguard.

“The woman should only be in the ‘inner room,’ while the men should provide all the needs of the woman, including making purchases from the market for the use of the family.

“Islam does not permit women to go out indiscriminately, as they are supposed to be in the house taking care of the children,” he added.

Aliyu’s statement has been linked to President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark that his wife, Aisha belongs in the kitchen.

Buhari made the comment in Germany after his wife said, during an interview with BBC, that his government had been hijacked by a cabal.
