Attorney-General shuns Senate again

The AGF said his stand is that the Senate lacked justification to discuss the matter.

Reports say Malami was represented at the hearing by the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Prosecution,  Okoi Obono-Obla.

This infuriated the members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, who walked Obono-Obla out of the venue of the hearing.

You will recall that the lawmakers summoned Malami on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, to come and shed more light on the forgery charges levelled against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The AGF however refused to honour the Senate’s invitationon June 23, 2016.

The Senate then issued another summon, asking him to appear before it on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Punch reports that the lawmakers were angered by Malami’s refusal to honour their invitation.

The Senators reportedly said the AGF was trying to derail the country’s democracy, adding that something will be done about the matter.

The chairman of the committee, Senator David Umaru, refused to listen to Obono-Obla, who tried to deliver Malami’s message.
