FRSC educates motorists on rainy conditions, bad weather

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has shared road safety tips for bad weather.

Road safety

According to the FRSC, rainy conditions, and bad weather need extra caution because they increase the chances of an accident.

"Driving on a rainy day is more dangerous than driving on a snowy one. When the rain starts to fall and pavement is wet, the likelihood of car crash is higher compare to what is obtainable during wintry conditions like snow."

Debbie Hersman, the president and CEO of the National Safety Council, said, "drivers often do not respect the rain, and fail to adjust their driving habits to hazardous conditions’’.

Bill Van Tassel, Ph.D., manager of driver training programs for the AAA national office in Orlando, Florida, advises motorists to get their cars rain ready because "tyre tread is key''.

Here are three rainy road safety tips from Tassel.

Slow down- "When roadways are wet, the friction is reduced between the tyre and the road."

Back off- "Driving too fast especially on wet pavement is higly dangerous because your tyres lose traction with the precipitation."

The FRSC simply advises road users to practice driving techniques that can save your life.
