The question remains if the new change will bring in the anticipated result, as there are quite a lot of factors that needs to be addressed before developmental changes can roll in

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola on tour of projects in North on January 25, 2016

According to the Association of National Electricity Distributors, the introduction of the new electricity bill will attract more investment into Nigeria.

Despite the expected positive change it is predicted to bring, labour unions and civil societies have expressed their resentment concerning the increment in price.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola expressed that the new electricity tariff plan is the first implemented policy of the Buhari administration.

Mr. Sunday Oduntan, the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy, ANED, in an interview with Punch said the present power tariff era will be not see improved in the country.

“If you want an improved service, we have to have a cost-reflective tariff. The required huge investment cannot happen without us having an appropriate pricing. That is the issue. We have been under-selling for a long time, and you can’t be selling a product that is supposed to be N100 at N60 and people are expecting improvement; that business will collapse.

The question remains if the new change will bring in the anticipated result, as there are quite a lot of factors that needs to be addressed before developmental changes can roll in.
