The governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has paid the owners of houses affected by the ongoing road construction of Olaiya/Ita Olokan in Osogbo.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Grace Titi-Laoye, Aregbesola said this payment showed his administration's commitment to caring for the residents of the state.

According to the governor, the general wellbeing of the citizenry is just as important as the state's infrastructural development.

He urged the residents to assist the government's infrastructural goals by paying their taxes, in light of the reduction in the state's allocation from the Federation Account.

"Since inception we have paid over N1 Billion to the people affected by separation within and outside the state capital, the disbursement is not in any way easy but as a government we have responsibilities to pay compensation to those who have genuine claims to reduce their suffering”.

While the residents of Osun state are receiving compensation, residents of Amuzu community, Ebonyi State, are protesting because the government has taken their lands without any compensation.

“How could government wake up one day and start measuring our land with the intention of taking it from us without our consent.”
