NHRC begins investigation into Volkswagen cars in Nigeria

The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) is has started an investigation of Volkswagen cars in Nigeria.

The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) is making enquiries concerning claims that Volkswagen has supplied the Nigerian market with substandard vehicles.

Tagged “Request to Urgently investigate Volkswagen’s business in Nigeria to see if cars sold to Nigerians rigged carbon emissions data and potentially in breach of human rights,” is the petition against the automaker.

According to NHRC's executive secretary, Professor Bem Angwe, this petition was made by human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana(SAN).

"Urgently investigate Volkswagen’s business in Nigeria to see if cars sold to Nigerians rigged carbon emissions data and potentially in breach of human rights to life, health and a general satisfactory environment guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human Rights to which Nigeria is a state party.”
