Nigeria-based company set to build 300,000 affordable housing units by 2020

Lafarge Africa Plc is set to provide Nigerians with 300,000 affordable housing units before 2020.

It has been revealed that Nigeria has a housing deficient that needs 17 million housing units annually.

In order to bridge this gap in the housing industry, Lafarge Africa Plc is set to build 300,000 low cost housing units by 2020.

The General Manager, Independent Power Projects, Mr. Lanre Opakunle, spoke on the number of beneficiaries, states involved and investors.

“In Abuja, we are working on a development of 500 houses in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development. In Kano, we are currently working on the development of 504 units sponsored by the Emir of Kano and using a prefabricated solution enabling a record fast execution. The solutions enable up to 30 percent savings on construction costs.”

The Lafarge Easy Home scheme has collaborated with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and LAPO Microfinance Bank.

Last month, Pulse Nigeria reported that the cement company has also collaborated with Ogun state.

This partnership is expected provide Nigerians with advanced construction technological skills.
