Amaechi, Sijuwade interrogated on N1tn railway contracts

In two years, some major railway projects in the country would be completed and put to full use

The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, appeared before an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives headed by Edo State lawmaker, Mr. Johnson Agbonayinma,  on Tuesday.

Amaechi mentioned that he had no information in respect to the contracts for the rehabilitation and modernisation of railway in the country.

He stated that he would not be of good use in the investigation since he wasn’t in office when the contract was awarded.

“I don’t know about the past contracts but I can talk more on our progress and what we are doing now,” the minister said".

He disclosed that based on an audit ordered when he came into office as Minister of Transportation, in two years, some major railway projects in the country would be completed and put to full use.

The Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Commission (NRC) was also present at the interrogation.

He was questioned concerning the method through which the contract was won and if a family member of his is on the board of Eser Nigeria Limited, one of the firms that participated in the contract.

In his response, he said, “I am unaware that my relation is a director of the company you mentioned”.

He informed the committee that told the committee that all contracts above N1billion got the approval of FEC.
