The real meaning of love

Every day we live our lives, meet people, pass through phases and experience different kinds of feelings.

Love

Some of those feelings we experience may not really be understood by us because we do not know what to make out of it.

It’s an abstract so we can’t touch, feel it with our hands, or measure it as the case may be but it is there and very real but we just can’t comprehend it. This is the way love feels; We know it’s a happy feeling, we know there is something going on our inside, its feels refreshing, feels right and it’s a state we’d love to be in.

It’s a nice feeling but sometimes we are afraid of it, we are scared we might be losing grip of it and we are not sure how we can interpret it so we ask ourselves; could this be love? When we know the true meaning of love then we can understand the real cost of love.

Let me attempt to list some of the characteristics of love

Love is selfless, Love is kind, it is accommodating, it is forgiving, love gives, it understands and does not envy. Love trusts, perseveres, it is patient, it is respectful, it gives hope, it is sacrificing, overlooks and endures.

Love does not envy, does not keep record of wrongs, love is not evil or proud. It is not easily angered. Love is not intimidating and over-powering.

Love, Lust or obsession

Let’s talk about love, lust and obsession because some of us do not know the difference nor do we know when to draw a line. Love is pure, lust is sexual and obsession is possession. Do not intermingle love and lust in any way as they are not related and do not have a common goal.

When all that comes to your mind of when you think of a particular person is sexual, you have some sexual fantasies and you obviously keep imagining the person naked with you, then you are lusting and not loving. Lust can be so powerful that you can confuse it with love.

Lust is okay where flings come into play or “friendship with benefit” kind of thing but for a lasting and long term relationship, you might want to flee from it. Lust is usually short lived and for a short term before the focus shifts. Lusting is like a challenge that once conquered, it moves on to the next best thing.

Obsession leaves you unable to move forward with your life, it’s a state where you can’t just stop thinking about someone or something. Obsessive love puts you in a condition where you feel an overwhelming obsessive desire to possess the person you have this strong attraction for.

When you are obsessed with someone, you are very much into the person’s life and everything about him/her. Obsessive love can leave you stagnant or destroy your life. Obsession is when you love someone so much that you are choking the person in the name of love. You are possessed by the person’s life and can literarily stop living your life because of it. This is a dangerous type of love and if you find yourself in this position, I would advise you to seek help.

The real love is plain and simple. Do not confuse the different feelings you have to be love. When you are in love or when you find love, your inner self will find peace. This love is like a calming wave of the sea, it is long lasting and there is nothing turmoil about it. Your spirit soul and body will be in agreement that you are in a state of love.  You can’t chase after this type of love because it just happens to you.
